The basics

What exactly is CBD?

Cannabidiol is one of over 100 naturally occurring compounds found in the hemp plant — and it has nothing to do with getting high.

CBD (cannabidiol) is a cannabinoid extracted from low-THC hemp plants. Unlike THC — the psychoactive compound associated with cannabis — CBD does not cause intoxication, altered perception, or any "high" sensation whatsoever.

Hemp plants contain hundreds of compounds including cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. When these work together in your body, researchers describe what's known as the 'entourage effect' — where the full-plant compounds appear to be more effective working in harmony than isolated CBD alone.

7CBD sources full-spectrum oil from hemp grown specifically for CBD extraction, with THC kept well below the UK legal limit of 0.2% — meaning zero psychoactive effect.

Did you know? Your body already has its own endocannabinoid system — a network of receptors throughout the brain and body that naturally interacts with cannabinoids like CBD.

🌿
CBD — Cannabidiol

The primary compound in 7CBD products. Non-psychoactive, 100% legal in the UK, and the most researched cannabinoid after THC. Works with the body's endocannabinoid system to support balance and wellbeing.

CBG

Often called the "mother cannabinoid" — the precursor from which other cannabinoids are synthesised in the plant.

CBN

Found in aged cannabis, known for its potential calming and sedative properties alongside CBD.

CBC

Cannabichromene — non-psychoactive, works in conjunction with other cannabinoids for an enhanced effect.

Terpenes

Aromatic plant compounds responsible for scent, flavour, and contributing to the entourage effect.

The science

How CBD works in your body

CBD interacts with a little-known biological network that influences sleep, appetite, pain, mood, and immune response.

01

The endocannabinoid system

Your body has a natural endocannabinoid system (ECS) — a complex cell-signalling network discovered in the 1990s that plays a key role in regulating mood, sleep, appetite, and immune function.

02

CB1 & CB2 receptors

The ECS operates through two main receptor types. CB1 receptors are concentrated in the brain and nervous system; CB2 receptors are found predominantly in the immune system and peripheral organs.

03

CBD's indirect action

Unlike THC, CBD doesn't bind directly to these receptors. It modulates the system indirectly — influencing how your body uses its own naturally produced endocannabinoids like anandamide.

04

Homeostasis

The ECS helps your body maintain homeostasis — a stable internal environment. CBD may support this balancing act across sleep, mood, inflammation, and pain response.

Product knowledge

The three types of CBD

Not all CBD is created equal. Understanding the spectrum helps you make a more informed decision when you buy.

Option 01

CBD Isolate

The purest form of CBD — 99%+ cannabidiol with all other hemp compounds removed. No flavour, no additional cannabinoids, and no entourage effect.

Zero THC Flavourless & odourless Single compound No entourage effect
Option 03

Broad Spectrum

A middle ground — contains CBD plus other cannabinoids and terpenes, but with THC removed entirely. Good for those wanting some entourage benefit without any THC.

Zero THC Some entourage effect Multiple cannabinoids THC-sensitive users

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

The CBD market can be confusing. Here are the questions we hear most often.

Will CBD make me feel high?

No. CBD is non-psychoactive. It does not bind to the brain's CB1 receptors in the same way as THC, so it cannot produce a high or altered state of mind. UK-legal CBD contains only trace levels of THC.

What strength should I start with?

Most first-time users start with a 500mg oil and adjust based on their response. The principle "start low, go slow" is always recommended — increase gradually until you find what works for you.

How do I take CBD oil?

CBD oil is typically taken sublingually — under the tongue for 60–90 seconds before swallowing. This allows faster absorption through the mucous membranes compared to simply swallowing it.

Is full-spectrum better than isolate?

Research suggests full-spectrum products may be more effective due to the entourage effect — cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids working synergistically. Isolate is preferred by those wanting absolutely zero THC.

Can I take CBD with medication?

CBD can interact with certain medications, particularly those with a "grapefruit warning". Always consult your doctor or pharmacist before using CBD if you are taking any prescription medicines.

What does a lab test (COA) tell me?

A Certificate of Analysis from an accredited third-party lab verifies the exact cannabinoid profile, CBD/THC potency, and confirms the absence of pesticides, heavy metals, and microbial contaminants.
