Hemp and CBD oil, what’s the difference?

When talking about natural oils you may have come across hemp oil and CBD oil. Although these are often used without any distinction they are actually different. So let’s get into the difference between the two.

One of the main things to consider when talking about hemp oil and CBD oil is where it originates.

What is hemp oil?

Hemp oil is derived from the cannabis plant Sativa which has been grown on a large scale for industrial purposes. These plants contain low amounts of cannabinoids including the notorious THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (Cannabidiol). Hemp oil is extracted by pressing the seeds of this plant. This is similar to olive oil and coconut oil.

Since this plant contains very low levels of cannabinoids the seeds wouldn’t have been able to develop any cannabinoids as it’s yet to have sprouted. There may be a very small amount transferred by touching from the plant where it originated.

How is it used?

There are many uses for hemp oil and this is why you’re starting to see it frequently mentioned in the news and online. It has a fantastic amount of vitamins such as vitamins E, B, B1 and B2. Along with this it also contains magnesium, potassium and fatty acids such as omega-3 and omega-6, as well as being rich in protein and antioxidants. All of these can help lessen the signs of ageing and maintain heart health.

What is CBD oil?

CBD oil is an oil that has been extracted from hemp plants specifically grown for CBD extraction. This means that the CBD level will be significantly higher than in hemp oil. Trace amounts of THC will also be found but we ensure all of our products are under the 0.2% legal limit.

Why do we want trace amounts of THC?

Two words, “Entourage effect”, but what does it mean? It’s the result of the synergistic interaction of cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and fatty acids found in cannabis. In layman’s terms, all of the elements found in the cannabis plant work together to increase the overall effects of your CBD oil.

What are the benefits of CBD oil?

As much as we’d love to delve into this topic due to CBD marketing laws we can’t ☹. So to help counteract this we’re offering testers for our sprays, capsules and E-Liquids! Come down and try them out for yourself.
